Will Young has his Strictly Come Dancing pay cheque slashed after he quit

Will Young's Strictly Come Dancing pay cheque has reportedly been cut by £20,000 after he quit the show.

Will Young had his fee slashed to a fifth of the original amount as the BBC deemed him to have broken his contract by leaving.

A show insider told The Sun that he dropped out of the show because he was scared he wouldn't win, a decision which reportedly left his partner, Karen Clifton furious.

They said: "It became obvious that despite his huge dance background he was never going to be a contender because there are so many better celebs.

"The few previous contestants to go have quit because they're injured or a family member has died- not because they feel they can't win."

The 37-year-old broke his silence in a text to Radio Two presenter Chris Evans to say he was fine after citing 'personal reasons' for his departure.

Following his initial statement, Will wrote on Wednesday: "I'm absolutely dandy thanks. It's all very undramatic really. I've done my statement and others can say what they want to say. I never read what they say anyhow."

But other sources claim the former Pop Idol winnner pulled out of the programme because he was suffering from anxiety.

The pressure of the competition is said to have become too much for Will, who felt obliged to leave for the sake of his health.

Sources say the tipping point came after last Saturday's bust up with judge Len Goodman.

The 72-year-old criticised Will's Bollywood dance for lacking in salsa.

He hit back saying: "24 counts of eight in the dance" prompting Len to scold him: "show up, keep up and shut up."

A source told the Mirror: 'Will was suffering from anxiety all of last week and he told friends he wasn't feeling up to the show, he felt he was under intense scrutiny and wasn't taking it well.
