Fox Music veeps Ziffren to oversee songs, scores

Laura Ziffren, who has worked on the soundtracks to such films as “William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet” and the upcoming “Picture Perfect,” has been upped to vice president of Fox Music.

In her new role, Ziffren will help coordinate and supervise the creative aspects of issues related to song and score for films and TV programs distributed by 20th Century Fox Filmed Entertainment.

She also will serve as a liaison to musical talent for the studio.

“Laura Ziffren combines the intuition, smarts and great ears for film music that make her an enormous part of the success we’re having at Fox Music,” said Robert Kraft, exec VP of Fox Music.

Serving as executive director of creative since 1995, Ziffren worked on the multiplatinum soundtrack to Baz Luhrmann’s “Romeo & Juliet.” She has been credited with uncovering two of the film’s hit songs, “Crush” by Garbage and “Love Fool” by the Cardigans. Additionally, she coordinated the music for the August release “Picture Perfect” and currently is working on the soundtrack to Alfonso Cuarnon’s update of “Great Expectations.”

Ziffren began her career at Warner Pictures U.K. in 1985 before seguing to Touchstone Pictures’ music department, where she worked on the music for such films as “Pretty Woman” and “Cocktail.”
