Rhone: "We are very pleased with our on-going relationship with MGM."
A Bird and a Bear Entertainment, the production shingle run by comedian Cedric the Entertainer and longtime manager Eric Rhone, has landed at the Lion.
Company has inked a two-year, first-look deal at MGM, where Cedric is currently starring in “Barbershop 2.” Pic, currently in production, will bow Feb. 6. Cedric also starred in the first “Barbershop” opposite Ice Cube.
The seven-figure deal with MGM will cover development and overhead.
A Bird and a Bear will develop pics for the duo to produce, including vehicles for Cedric to topline. Rhone serves as prexy of the company.

“We’re very excited to be expanding our relationship with Cedric,” said MGM prexy and chief operating officer Michael Nathanson. “Having worked with him on ‘Barbershop’ and now ‘Barbershop 2,’ we’re well aware of how extremely talented he is. He’s one of the most prominent comic actors and performers of his generation.”

A Bird and a Bear has already set up “Flash,” a comedy about a coach who leads a group of athletes both on and off the playing field, at MGM. He forms a tight bond with one of the kids, a young urban thug, and tries to teach him a lesson only to wind up learning one himself.
“We are very pleased with our on-going relationship with MGM,” Rhone said. “Our goal at A Bird and a Bear is to create and produce quality, commercially driven projects. We want to tell stories that represent issues that move us from comedies to dramas to non-fiction pieces.”
Company is also readying the comedies “Johnson Family Vacation” at Fox Searchlight and “Preaching Ain’t Easy” at Universal.
“Johnson Family Vacation” marks the first pic the duo have produced together. Rhone will also serve as a producer on “The Honeymooners.”
Cedric will next appear in the Universal comedy “Intolerable Cruelty,” opposite George Clooney and Catherine Zeta-Jones, in October, and he starts production on Paramount’s “The Honeymooners” that same month, playing Ralph Kramden.
